According to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, the number of foreigners visited the country in 2011 increased by 10.18% over the same period in 2010.
The first place remains the same and belongs to Antalya – 34.19%, about 10.5 million tourists. Istanbul is on the second place with – 24.81% (about 7.5 million people). The province of Mugla including such popular summer resorts as Marmaris, Bodrum and Fethiye – has the share of 10.15%, a historical Edirne – 8.35%, the capital of the Aegean – Izmir – 4.4%.
The same report provides the data on the number of tourists arriving to Turkey in the winter period. Generally, the popularity of the regions stays the same, however in winter most of the tourists visit Istanbul, then Antalya, Edirne, Artvin in the Black Sea region and Izmir.
